Oregon City, OR

Oregon CityThe destination for this day was the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center located at 1726 Washington St. Oregon City, OR.  This was my first time doing the tour so my approach was to locate those destinations that were within a days ride from my home in Wilsonville, OR.  Oregon City is about a 20 minute ride.

As you can see from the picture it rained off and on during this trip but that did not dampen my spirits.  I needed more experience riding in the rain.  Little did I know that I would get this opportunity later in the summer.  The hosts at the Oregon Trail Oregon CityInterpretive Center were excited to stamp my booklet.  I thought to myself, this is really going to be fun if I am received with this much enthusiasm at each destination.

Hammond, OR

My next destination was Hammond, OR which is located in the very northwest corner of Oregon.  My goals was to find Colman's Cove Restaurant and Lounge located at 1015 Pacific Dr., Hammond OR.  I have camped at Fort Stevens State Park a Hammond, ORfew times so I had a restaurant pictured in my mind when I left the house.  Today is a beautiful spring day.  The sun is shining and there are light winds.

When I ride my motorcycle I try not to go out and come back the same way if possible.  So my route to Hammond is up I 5 to 217 to US26.  I'll head west on US 26 to US 101 and then turn north through Seaside, and up to Warrenton.  From there I'll turn west and northwest to Hammond.

Hammond, ORHammond is very small so Colman's Restaurant was not hard to find.  It was right across the street from the place I had eaten before. The front door was propped open otherwise there was not a car in the lot.  It was very dark inside as I entered but sure enough there was a gentleman behind the bar visiting with a customer sitting at the bar smoking a cigarette.  He told me the owners were on vacation and he didn't know where the stamp was but he would stamp my book with the Coleman's Cove Stamp and initial it.  That worked for me.

I ordered a bowl of clam chowder and some garlic toast and topped it off with fresh coffee.

My return trip took me through Astoria and back toward Portland on US 30.  I cut over on Germantown Road and worked my way back home from there.  I managed to get home prior to rush hour traffic.
