Grand Tour

During the spring of 2007 we decided to participate in the 33rd Annual Rose City Grand Tour.  The Grand Tour consists of 10 identified check points in Oregon and 5 additional check points outside of Oregon.  This years tour begins on April 1 and ends in September 2007. Each participant is mailed a booklet that identifies the specific location of the check points and provides a place for a stamp to confirm a visit to that site.

Most of my summer riding consisted of riding to places identified in the Grand Tour Booklet.  My summer riding also consisted of another trip to Livermore, CA to visit my Mom.  During this trip I managed to pick up three places identified on the Grand Tour.

Many of these places I had been to before but some I had never heard of.  Oregon is a beautiful place and I so much appreciated a reason to get out and travel all over the state as you can see from the map below.

I would readily participate in the Grand Tour again but likely not next summer.  Next summer we plan to ride to Alaska by heading to Great Falls, MT and then heading north through Banf and Jasper and over to Dawson Creek, the beginning of the Alcan Highway.  We plan to put the bike on the Alaska Ferry and take the Inland Passage south to Prince Rupert.  From there we will drop south through BC and Washington. I want to take this opportunity to thank the Rose City Motorcycle Club and all those who worked on this years Grand Tour for their hard work and for providing me the opportunity and a reason to visit so many beautiful places in the Northwest.
