DAY 9

Today the motorcycle never left the motel parking lot.  Barb and I went sight seeing and did the laundry.  Let's get to the sight seeing!

We went on a 16 minute boat ride over to Mackinaw Island.  This is truly a return to yesteryear.  There are no motorized vehicles on the island.  You either walk, ride a bike or take a horse drawn carriage.  The bikes parallel park on the side of the street as you will see in the pictures.  Who ever thought that the smell of horse manure would add to the atmosphere of the entire experience.  The streets are very narrow, the houses are well maintained, and the flowers are plentiful.  For a day we felt like we were in the early 1900's.

We returned to the mainland in the middle of the afternoon and did a load of laundry.  For dinner we had a pizza delivered to our motel and ate dinner across the street on the edge of the water looking at the Mackinaw Bridge and transport ships moving through the Mackinaw Straight!

Today was Sunday and by later afternoon the town had pretty much emptied out.  We had another great day!  Tomorrow we head south to Traverse City, MI to visit with my brother and his wife.  We have never seen the house that they designed and had built.  We are looking forward to our visit with them.
