Summer Trip 2006

Day 22: Mileage: 165 Weather: wonderful

DAY 22

Saturday July 8, 2006

I got up and went to the lobby to get Barb a cup of coffee.  I have found if we want to get an early start, this is what I must do.  There is no need to get to the
East Gate of Yellowstone National Park prior to 8:00 AM because the road is closed for construction from 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM each day.  We have been told there is 7-11 miles of nasty road constuction, dirt, rocks and of course lots of mud because they continually water the construction surface to try and keep the dust down.  I am sure this helps cars but trust me, this does not help motorcyclists.

It was a beautiful drive heading west from Cody, WY.  We rode along a large resovouir and arrived at the East gate about 7:50 AM.  While we were waiting in line we were treated to a view of a cow moose and her calf.  Barb got a picture of the mother.

The construction area was as nasty as it had been described to us.  Especially when a "jerk" from CA passes me in the middle of the constuction zone.  By the time we emerged from this area he was one motorcycle length ahead, that being me.

By the time we got to Fish Bridge we were starving!  We stopped in for breakfast served to us by a retired Oregonian who was working the summer in Yellowstone.  We headed on to Jackson after breakfast and yes, Barb saw a bear.  To those of you who know Barb, she has seen many bears over the years but this is the first confirmed sighting and she even got a picture of it's derriere!

The trip through the Tetons was beautiful as usual and we met our friends in Jackson at 3:00 PM.  What fun to be together again in Jackson, Barb and Becky are in their shopping glory!
