Summer Trip 2006

Day 21 Rode from Cody, WY to Red Lodge, MT over Beartooth Pass and back to Cody, WY

Weather: Perfect

DAY 21

Friday July 7, 2006

We got up at 6:00 AM cleaned up and had a cup of coffee and took off.  We rode north on highway 120 into Montana and then headed east to Red Lodge where we ate breakfast.  I helped a man from Germany who is here in the States visiting and riding a motorcycle all over the country.  He was trying to call Billings, MT to order a new chain for his motorcycle.  I tried to help him on the pay phone but with no success.  Finally I dialed the number on my cell phone and we got right through.  He was deeply appreciative.

Barb and I head over the pass.  It may be the most beautiful country I have ever seen.  The weather is perfect and every curve and switch back holds another breath taking view.  A former administrative assistant of mine, Carol Thornberry, grew up in this area.  We have been communicating via email.  We found a campground called Island Lake Campground where she and her family have taken many pictures over the years.  How fun it is to share a connection.

The elevation of the pass is nearly the same height as Mt Hood.  It was windy and cold on top so we did not linger long.  We took 100 pictures today on this ride.  I will not put all of them in the slide show because I am too lazy.  Take my word for it, the pictures do not do justice to the real view!

Tomorrow we are off to meet friends, Becky and Steve in Jackson Hole.
