DAY 14We woke to another beautiful day. Of course the first thing I did was check the weather and it appeared that we would not have to deal with rain. Because we wanted to spend time riding along the banks of the Mississippi River we jumped on the freeway and rode from Portage to LaCross WI. A canadian couple suggested that we ride on the Wisconsin side because you are much closer to the water. It was a beautiful ride. We ate a very tasty lunch in Alma, WI. While sitting outside the local ice cream shop I met a couple from Red Wing, MN who suggested that we cross to the MN side up ahead so we could see some additional small towns on their side of the river. So we did. This is why traveling in this manner is so much fun. We stopped in Red Wing and explored the town. This is where Red Wing shoes were originally made. Now we head north and west to Birdie and Bob's. We didn't get lost but we were not sure where we were because we were traveling on county roads and they are not on our map. We eventually got close and Barb spotted a Starbucks and the made everything better. We called Bird and found out we were only 5 miles away. We had a nice time visiting that evening after eating barbecued chicken. We played speed scrabble that evening. What a wonderful day this has been!
