Summer Trip 2006

Day 12 From Traverse City, MI to Ludington, MI. MIleage: 93 miles

Weather: Sunny, cloudy, rainy, and sunny.

DAY 12

Today we leave Traverse City, MI and hit the road again.  Of course the first thing we do in the morning is log in on the computer to check on the weather.  It looks like we should make it far enough south to miss the afternoon thundershowers expected in Traverse City.

This day should be relatively easy, mileage wise.  We see Jim and Candy off to work and then eat breakfast ourselves, pack and hit the road.  It feels good to be moving again.  The sun is shining and it is on to Mannistee, MI.  We stop in town for a cup of coffee and a homemade cinnamon twist.  It is a cut town built on a river that flows into Lake Michigan.

We only have 25 miles to go to reach Ludington.  We are well along our way and we can see that it is getting darker and darker and we are headed directly into a thunder shower, and we were and did.  It rained hard.  I was thinking all this time that if we hadn't lingered so long in Mannistee we would have made it to the motel dry.

As we approached the motel we came on a bad auto accident that had just happened.  There were no emergency vehicles present and a citizen was directing traffic.  Two blocks later we turned into our motel the the manager was waving me to park under the roof that extended over the walk way.  We got checked in and hung out for the next three hours while it rained off and on.

When the weather cleared we went into town and explored.  Tomorrow morning we have to leave the motel by 6:30 AM to be at the ferry loading area by 7:00 AM.
