Summer Trip 2006

Day 11  Traverse City to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park to Suttons Bay and back to Jim and Candy's home.

Weather: Overcast with thundershowers late in the day.

DAY 11

Barb and I got up before Jim and Candy had to leave for work, yes they work.  We checked on the weather outlook for the day and it called for overcast skies with possible thunder showers in the afternoon.  We decided to ride to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. It is an area that Jim had recommended we see if we had the time.  We stopped in the small town of Empire for coffee and a cinnamon twist and enjoyed our ride through the park with beautiful views of Lake Michigan.  We also met two couples on Goldwings one from MI and one from PA.  When people see the Oregon License Plate on our Goldwing they always have a lot of questions about our trip.

We rode north through a number of cute small towns and stopped for lunch in the town of Suttons Bay which is on Traverse Bay.  I stopped a couple of senior citizens and asked them for a lunch recommendation.  Barb and I each had a delicious  sandwich and ate it outside while sitting at a table on the sidewalk.

It was a beautiful drive south along the shores of Traverse Bay through town and back up to Jim and Candy's home.

After I got back to the house I practiced putting tie down straps on the motorcycle which I will have to do in two days when we take the ferry across Lake Michigan.  It rained right after we got home.  It was an enjoyable ride today because we did not have a specific destination.
