Summer Trip 2006

Day 10 Rode from Mackinaw City, MI to Traverse City, MI on route 31.  Miles: 140

Weather: Overcast most of the day with thunder showers in the afternoon.

DAY 10

We left Mackinaw City at a casual pace but prior to departing we looked up the motel that we stayed in 30 years ago.  Ben was a little squirt and Erika was a baby and my mom, who was with us, was our age.  Boy does time fly.  We drove down highway 31 along the shores of Lake Michigan and proceeded right into Traverse City where my brother and his wife live.  We found the peninsula but had to call for directions and it was a good thing we did.  Jim proceeded to turn left on this and right on that and cross this but first, then turn here.  Amazingly we drove almost right to their beautiful home right on Traverse Bay.  Jim and Candy designed the house and participated in finishing it.  It is a beautiful home as you will see in the pictures.

Candy has always had an artistic flair and her use of color will be a big encouragement to Erika who also uses bold colors.  They took us on a tour of the peninsula and the light house you see in on the northern most tip.  It now is part of a state park.

We had a wonderful dinner and later that evening Jim pulled out some old 8m films of us when we were kids.

This was another great day and it was so much fun to finally see Jim and Candy in their own home.
