Mt Hood Loop

One of my favorite rides is to catch Highway 26 heading east ofMt. Hood Portland and ride up to Government Camp. I always stop by the Huckleberry Inn for a fresh maple bar (made fresh daily and they are huge!) After your carbs have been fully replenished, continue east on Highway 26 until it intersects with Highway 35. Merge onto Highway 35 and continue around Mt. Hood through Parkdale and on to Hood River.

Be sure to take great care when ever riding in the mountains. Be on the look out for remaining gravel especially in the turns and shady areas. You must also be vigilant and watch for deer/elk crossing the road. Usually road conditions are good but that doesn't mean that the road hasn't deteriorated from the winter weather and ski traffic.

Rowena Columbia GorgeI usually pick up a sandwich in Hood River and take it down to the city park along the Columbia River where Highway 35 would cross the Columbia River into Washington. After lunch get onto Interstate 5 and head west to Portland and home. Along Interstate 5 you can get off and travel the Old Columbia Highway, US 30 for various stretches. If you have not done this before, I highly recommend it.

For other great motorcyle highways in Oregon and across the USA, check out America's Byways.
